Just finished mine, and I agree with all your critiques, except for the sturdiness. Nancy actually recommends the use of sew-in Peltex, and mine, being made of home-dec fabric, is actually stiffer than I like. I made my straps out of interfaced, thrice-folded fabric, and had to cut them a LOT shorter than the pattern piece. It's pretty roomy! I always walk around with a steno pad for my shopping lists and notes, and it fits in this baby easily. I really like Nancy's method for reinforcing the magnetic snap (I used plastic canvas for that and to create a bag base).

Late to this party, but I'm about to make the same bag and I appreciate your critique very much! I had definitely planned to do the swtraps another way.
