echolalia said... Nice jacket - I've never really considered making wet weather/bushwalking gear. How does your jacket compare in price with a similar quality retail garment? Would you save money on adult sized garments? We can often buy discontinued lines quite cheaply here (Tasmania, Aust), but I am not sure that Goretex fabric is easily purchased through retail outlets. I am a bit unsure about purchasing online from US outlets. Cheers. 1/14/05 2:08 AM

lmg said... Echolalia, I spent about $60 Canadian on the fabric and notions so it was still worth it for me compared to what is out there. I bought both the Gortex and the lining from Textile Outfitters (www.justmakeit.com). I have enough left over to make my hubby one as well. The pockets aren't that difficult but I am not sure they turned out like they are supposed to. They are however hidden within the welts and that's what you want with a rain jacket. By the way, how do I link to the Jalie pattern website? I can't make it work!! 1/15/05 8:24 AM

I read "Sewing Outdoor Gear: Easy Techniques for Outerwear that works" by Rachelle Harper and she had some really helpful bits about sewing pockets, (which admitedly, are the hardest part on a jacket in my oppinion). Anyway, thanks for your review and I hope this helps! 3/8/07 6:08 PM
