Pattern Description:
A line dress with contrast piping, yoke bodice and rounded godet skirt.
Pattern Sizing:
8-10-12-14? I think I made the 12.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Kind of. My fabric is so different that it changes the look.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
No. Actually, I ended up ignoring them all together and constructing it my own way. I ended up re-drafting a bit of the waistband pattern so I could construct the lining and zipper all in one clean, machine finish using the tutorial shown Here. This was fantastically easy, and I'm very pleased with the results, especially since I've had tons of trouble with side-zips in dresses in the past.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The finished product is nice, but the whole pattern just seemed to go together in a strange way. This might have been because I didn't follow the directions, but I think it is just oddly drafted.
Fabric Used:
Poly Silk Shantung
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Lots. Like I said, I ended up re-drafting the back waistband, not only to accommodate the lining construction, but also to add some darts to help fit my sway back. I shortened the bodice by 2 inches so the waistband would actually fit at my waist. Raising the waist is a common adjustment for me, so I don't know if someone else would have to do this, but I don't think the dress would fit properly without it. I also didn't do the contrast piping and instead used a decorative overlock stitch in a contrast color. This was much easier, and it helped reinforce the seams. I didn't have the patience to deal with all that piping. The stitching does make the seams stiffer, but it doesn't seem to affect the bodice too much. I left the stitching off the godets, because I didn't want them to puff out. Here's a detail: http://www.flickr.com/photos/50657046@N07/8212615170/in/photostream/
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I won't sew it again. It's a great dress, but I don't need more than one.
Conclusion:
Overall, this dress was totally worth the fuss. It might have caused some problems for me in the long run, but I recommend ignoring the lining instructions and using the tutorial, it really made the finished dress look much better, and it sure seemed easier than the lining instructions given.

Hi, I'd like to know how tall you are and measurements? I'm petite 5'2 and 33-28-38. I'm conflicted as to whether I should go with the body measurements guide which says I'm a 12 or with the finished garment measurement which I should be a 6 or 8 (with a little more ease). Big difference! So, as a beginner sewer with little time before this project is due, would like to know before I cut :)

I hope this message comes soon enough for you! I'm quite tall, 5'11, but am 38-29-40. I went with the finished garment measurements, which means I made a 10 or 12, I can't remember. I remember thinking that there was a LOT of ease in the sizing which didn't make sense for this style.
