said... Mary Ann! what a lovely top. I love it!!! And this is even more special because you bought the buttons from your "yards and yards" prize money. One question: the sleeve openings look a little wide to me. Do you think the bra band will be visible from the side? Are the sleeves set in or cap? 7/28/02 10:52 PM

said... In the past few dyas I have made 10, yes TEN of these shirts out of everything from fashion calico, to Silk, to linen. This is my staple everyday shirt. I however altered the collar and facings to make them more to my liking. 7/29/02 0:39 AM
said... Deepika, the sleeve openings are a little wide, but the armhole does end just above my bra strap. I think it works so well because it is a "fitted" shirt. The sleeves are an additional pattern piece. They are sewn on "in the flat", and then the side seam/underarm seam are sewn up in one fell swoop, as they say. I think it is a very cute shirt, and I do plan to make another....but probably not TEN!!! TEN, you say, Gina! Are they all the short length? What did you do to the collar and facings to make them more to your liking? I think everything went together well, but I'm still trying to adjust to the collar size vs. depth of sleeve proportion. I DO like it because it IS different, so I don't know why I'm fretting over it...

said... oh... is this a plus sized pattern only? Does the pattern envelope have size 10 (36)? 7/29/02 10:13 AM
said... I've made this one too, in a lightweight crisp linen. Because the sleeves do stick out a bit, I think it makes the waist look smaller. If I lift my arm, I can see my bra through the sleeve, but my nursing bra is 4 1/2" wide at the side! Deepika, the smallest size in the pattern is 10/36. 7/29/02 11:44 AM
said... Mary ann, inspired by your review, I got this pattern today. I am just reading the instructions and you are right. The way they have described how to do the front and back darts does seems strange. Why would you want zigzag stitching on the Right side of the garment just on the dart??? beats me. Can I skip the topstitching? 7/30/02 0:57 AM
said... Deepika, Alana Robson has also reviewed this top and she used common sense and sewed the vertical darts as usual--stitched on the inside and pressed to one side. She seems just as happy with her results as I am with my "don't use you brain, just follow the instructions" method. I see no reason to suffer needlessly, now that I've done as instructed...Good luck! Hope you enjoy your shirt as much as I enjoy mine. 7/30/02 1:29 AM
said... Thanks Mary Ann. I will just use Alana's method. I think the neck maybe too low for me so do you think just shifting the position of the buttons will suffice? 7/30/02 8:38 AM
said... Mary Ann, what a beautiful blouse! Love the color and love the buttons and love the silhouette. Did you make your cropped pants yet? When you do, I wanna see the whole ensemble! 7/31/02 1:29 PM
said... Deepika, I didn't find the neck to be very low, but check it when you pinfit and I'll bet just moving the buttons will suffice!
Diane, the cropped pants are still in the "dream" stage, but I'm hoping to get to them soon, before the real heat of a Southern CA summer hits!
Thanks, everybody for all the feedback; this is waaaay too much fun! 7/31/02 2:20 PM
