I think you've done a great job on a first shirt! I read your blog post and what came to mind was the Collette's Negroni pattern which gives a more slender, modern fit. (Apparently, anyway. I own the pattern but have yet to sew it, being a little intimidated about sewing a shirt.) I think the only criticism of the Negroni is it doesn't have a collar stand--pretty sure that is what other reviewers mentioned. Still, the Collette instruction booklet is wondrous in its completeness. Maybe someone else will come along with a suggestion for the perfect men's shirt pattern. In the meantime, please know you have done a great job on negotiating all the steps of making a shirt--steps I can only contemplate at this time and not actually perform. And the Sewosaurus's husband has done a fine job modeling his new shirt.

Your work is very nice. Too bad you ended up with a giant pattern for your not-giant husband. It looks like you really took your time with the collar/collarband, so neat and tidy. The lack of professional style cuff plackets are one of my pet peeves of sewing patterns, especially on men's shirts. I am going to make another recommendation for a nice, fitted men's shirt, Burda envelope patterns. There are several styles. The fit is much more modern. Do some measuring against shirts that fit him well and you will have a winner! Any project that results in learning something is worth the time.
