I used this pattern at an ASG workshop to learn about bust cup adjustments. I wanted to learn how to adjust patterns for larger cup sizes so I can keep sewing for the family, and for myself when my body shape changes in the future. I've also added a Pattern Magic collar to make it look a bit different from my fellow sewers.
Connie Crawford princess line blouse with 2 collar views and 3 sleeve lengths. The pattern description suggests mixing and matching the pieces.
I adjusted the collar using Pattern Magic and made the "collar with 2 distinct expressions".
xs - xl. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes it does. Connie puts a lot of research into her designs and she does a great job designing patterns for real people and not super models. Were the instructions easy to follow?
I changed the collar so I used a bias strip to finish the back of the collar instead of using a back facing, for a smoother finish.
The Pattern Magic collar looks like there are 2 collars and it is but they are joined by a bias cut piece. More on my blog if you're interested. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the princess seaming. This is a classic style so I felt I could manipulate it and use some Pattern Magic on it to make it look distinct without looking too arty. I'm a fairly plain person but a collar with a difference is the change I could handle. Fabric Used:
Poly cotton for this test version. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
If you look at the lines across the top of front and back bodice, there's a seam. This isn't a yoke. I've taken the excess bulk out but I forgot to take it out of the sleeve head so I have gathers in the sleeve head. So now it's a design feature.
I've done the following adjustment to fit:
Roll shoulder adjustment.
Raised the shirt up at the shoulders because I'm short.
Took in the back princess lines to fit me.
Took out excess in the sleeve head. Here is the write up about the changes. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes I would and I have made this with an eyelet cotton .
This shirt style will be use for Mum too, now that I know how to make a full bust adjustment. She is a different shape and bust size so I feel more confident to do a couple for her in the future. Conclusion:
I like this blouse because it's a classic style that you can change once you get the fit right. I had help getting the fit right but the instructions show you how to do this.
This is also a good pattern to experiment with Pattern Magic, if you feel you need a shirt that looks individual.
