| I'd like to title this review either, "I salvaged it" or "OMG I can't believe I'm about to write a negative review for Ottobre. I LOVE Ottobre! What has the world come to?!?"
Pattern Sizing:
European sizing 34 - 52. And grossly inaccurate.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. But this required major resizing on my part to get it to look like the photo.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
No. In fact, this is the first time in my sewing history that I have disagreed with the Ottobre instructions. Normally they are terse but unfailingly logical. In this pattern, they would have you put in the pockets and then do the waist darts. This would mean you are including the pockets in the waist dart, which would be dreadfully bulky and totally unnecessary. I opted to do the waist darts before attaching the pocket - in fact I got most of the way through attaching the pocket when I realized there was a problem - so I can say with certainty that at least with a size 42 the pocket does wind up at the waist dart and would be included.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
In theory I like the skirt design. In practice, not only do I dislike it, I found the sizing to be so wildly off that I can hardly believe this is an Ottobre pattern.
I measured myself carefully and I'm meticulous about seam allowance size and what have you. I had to take this skirt in by 2 inches just so it wouldn't drop to the floor. And honey, I've got a nice back porch goin' on so to have a skirt drop to the floor on me is a novel experience. I was so blown away that at first I just took it in by about an inch, and had to do it again: really. It's true.
And even after doing that, I could have totally taken it in by another inch and had a better fit.
When I finally got it to a point where I could wear it without fear of precipitous mortification, I realized I don't really like the pockets, after all. They just add bulk on the hips, and who needs that? I might as well go back to my tried and true lined Ottobre skirt pattern or my tried and true unlined A-line Vogue skirt pattern. All in all, I'm kind of disappointed even though I have a wearable skirt. I am not certain the fit is flattering, and I wished I had used this stash fabric for a different pattern.
Fabric Used:
Corduroy from stash, lining from stash.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Took it in by 2" from waist to hem. Could've taken it in another 1".
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
No. And no. There are better skirt patterns out there.
Conclusion:
Waaaaaah! I can't believe I had to write this review! I hope the sizing isn't off for that pretty "Warmly Wrapped" shrug. I've got another pretty bit 'o stash set aside for that and I'm worried.

Oh that is sad! I don't usually get bad Ottobre patterns either. I will skip that one. It did turn out pretty cute, for all that is worth.

Well, you have a cute skirt now! Good thing the sizing was off in the bigger direction...

Fabulous review, and I do have to say, fabulous skirt as well! You not only rescued it, it's pretty darn wonderful.

LOL I made this skirt as well and I also think the construction is off. I changed mine but it is also big and I'm about to take a bunch off. Also, I think you should sew down the tops of the pockets about 2 inches - mine keep gapping. I used this pocket design to add pockets to a pocketless skirt with a yoke and took off 2 inches off the top - and they are the best pockets ever. So...
