Pattern Description:
Lined, mid-knee length dresses have fitted bodice, princess seams, A-line or straight skirt, cap sleeves or sleeveless, back hemline slit. Pattern Sizing:
Misses 8-24 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were easy to follow. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
What I like most about this pattern is the collar. The fit is good also. Fabric Used:
The outer fabric is some kind of poly suiting that I purchased at Hancock Fabrics. The lining is black ambiance. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
One simple design change that I made was to the back collar closure. The pattern instructed to sew three hook and eye closures just above the back zip and along the collar edges where they meet at the center back. That would have made the collar stand up rather strangely, but I really liked how the collar fell in an inverted V along the back neck. So, I simply added one hook and eye closure at the collar back. For photos and details of this collar treatment, click here.
The only alteration I made was to make the hem 1/2" longer than what the pattern calls for. I am 5'6", I sewed the size 12, and if I hemmed it that extra 1/2" that was called for, the dress would have been just a smidge short for what I would be comfortable. As it is, the dress length just skims the top of my knees. It is a perfect length for my taste. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I might sew this again in a few months. It is a great dress. I do recommend this pattern to others. Conclusion:
The pattern fit is very good. Mind you, it is a fitted pattern, so if you are looking for something with a moderate amount of design ease, this is not the dress for you. I personally love the fit. The only thing I would change next time is the sleeve girth and length. I find the sleeves are a bit snug and I would add 1/2" to the circumference and 1" to the length next time. The dress is lined and includes an invisible zip. More pics can be seen on my blog. |

What a beautiful dress. I agree; the collar shape is a real winner. I also like how you've adapted the back closure. I'm adding this to my wish list right away!

This dress looks wonderful. I really like the neckline on it. I have a similar pattern, but I think it is McCalls. I will have to give it a try.

This is one of my favorite patterns. Glad I read your review since I WANT my collar to stand and it always droops. Three hook/eye closures? I guess I should have read the instructions. Your fabric choice makes this look like a $400 RTW garment. Beautiful.
