Cynthia, Power Sewing by Sandra Betzina includes instructions for taking out sleeve cap ease. I bought my tube turner at Joann's, but I am sure that you could also find one online if you don't have a Joann's or Hancock's near you.

this is such an EXCELLENT review! thanks! I have noticed too that mccalls has WAY to much ease in the sleeves. What's the best way to teach myself to alter out some of the ease, like you did? A book to recommend? I do the same thing for my collars so that they fold in around the neck better. good tips there. where do you buy a tube turner? thanks again......

It is pretty; as Leslie said, perfect to stand around at a party in! I suppose if you could find a STRETCH brocade...

Beautiful top! Very elegant. Thanks for the review -- your adjustment of the sleeves looks just right. Thanks also for the tip about filling out the point of the dart! That's very useful.

Thank you all for your kind words. Annika, I read about the dart technique in Power Sewing (page 56 specifically). Betzina suggests this technique for fabrics that don't shape easily like gabardine or faux suede. You center a small square of firm cotton or nonfusible interfacing under the dart point, then you simply sew over the square as you stitch the dart. When you iron the dart to one side, the fabric square at the point fills out the dimple - leaving your garment dimple free!

Beautiful! Can you explain in more detail how you did the darts?

This is so perfect -- the fit, the fabric, the way it looks on you. Great review too.

This looks lovely, would look great with a fitted slim black skirt with a long slit in it! Very "James Bond"! Great placement of the pattern motifs (missed the dreaded bust apex targets....)

Pretty and beautifully fitted! Before I read your review, I wondered to myself if it was possible to move in it. Perhaps not an everyday top, but it looks idea for a stand around and be beautiful cocktail party. Love the way you placed the fabric's pattern.
