I wanted to sew an outfit for the holidays to wear to Christmas concerts and shows. The red velvet skirt is the pattern I am reviewing here. The top is Kwik Sew 3740 in a soft ivory knit and the scarf is a self drafted pattern fashioned out of the leftover red velvet.
Pattern Description: Very easy to sew casual, elastic skirt in 3 lengths.
Pattern Sizing: XS-XL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, except that I made the skirt full length since I wanted to wear it with boots.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very, very easy. I thought about drafting the skirt without a pattern but I'm glad I found this Kwik Sew pattern as it was very easy and stress free.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked that it was very simple with only 2 pattern pieces. The pattern pieces are made of durable paper, not tissue, and I like that also. The waist was casing with elastic which makes for simple sewing and easy fit.
Fabric Used: Crushed Velvet
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Just the added length
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and yes. I have already sewed this skirt in black velvet also. I would recommend it for a very quick and simple skirt.
Conclusion: The skirt is very versatile for the holiday season as I can wear it with a variety of tops and sweaters depending on the occasion. My DH surprised me with an early Christmas present of tickets to see the the Radio City Rockettes (here in Texas) and I'll wear the velvet outfit.
Velvet for the holidays, lovely choice, and enjoy your night out. You will feel special in your new skirt.
