| Pattern Description:
The idea was making a pattern for a coctaildress that could easily be used in daytime situations
Pattern Sizing:
plus sized , very irregular
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It did look like what I had in mind
Were the instructions easy to follow?
There were none
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The pattern was fine. The fabric of the trimmings was difficult.
Fabric Used: A firm knit, a jaquard wooven fraying material, sheer ,very stretchy dottet mesh
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
none
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I can easily see this made as a summerdress, probably with a "normal",not sheer back

Good style for me
I decided to join the PR-Contest for an LBD (november 2012). Thinking what it would look like ,my first LBD came to my memory. That’s fifty years ago.
On the internet I found that the LBD nowadays can be more frivolous than it used to be.
Well than, As you can see I am elderly now and don’t have a beautiful body anymore. There is more an issue of hiding than of showing. I think that an empireline is a good possibility for that case. While drafting I had to take into account that I am sitting most of my day in a chair or a wheelchair, and that I have support stockings that end just under the knee. That makes it appropriate to choose a skirt that is a bit wide and a bit below the knees.
This being a fact of life I wanted to draw most of the attention to the upperpart of the dress. There I’ve added interest and some fun by using shining trimmings and a sheer back and sleeves. In the rules it was said that it should be possible to downgrade for the use of the dress to simple social meetings by day. Therefore I made the sheer elements in places where they could be hided under a jacket or cardigan .
The skirt is slightly an A –line in the front and has extra added room in the back. I think ,that is nicer when I stand or walk and is comfy when you sit.
The triangular low sheer back made it necessary to make an integrated bustier. That bustier is closed in the front with hook and eyes and in the front of the bodice is a zipper in order to reach the hook and eyes easily while dressing.
Special attention was paid to the shape of the triangular sheer stretchy part on the back. It was the only part of the bodice that was stretchy, and therefore I had to adapt it in order to avoid gaposis. But I had to adapt even more this time because I needed the supportive qualities of the stretch material. My triangle is much less wide than the original shape, but also a little bit higher. On the body however it sits as if it had the original shape, but now under stretch.
I trimmed it with folding elastic that is sewn on again while I stretched it a little bit .During the sewing the tissue should not be stretched. It’s the elastic alone.
My first musings were that I wouldn’t need an LBD any-more. However I’m so thrilled that I made it…. Almost nobody really needs one, I think, but it is just lovely to have one. Many of us are beautiful in it.

I think you look great! Nice job and the review is good too. And, I think you are right in that few of us really need a LBD anymore but I am glad I made mine too.
