Pattern Description:
Sandra Betzina women's top with gathered front. I made views A (photo) and B (photo)
Pattern Sizing:
Multi-size 6-14. I made a sze 12.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, I think so. As usual, I didn't have enough fabric so I shortened the tops 2". I actually think they are the right length and would have been too long for me otherwise.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. But I did get turned around a bit. If you look at the two tops, you'll see that they cross over in opposite directions.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It's very flatttering. There are also a lot of fitting tips in the instructions. They came in very handy especially as I often forget to take the time to try a garment on before stitching.
Fabric Used:
Silk knit. I actually started this project to experiment with techniques for sewing silk knit. I had one piece from Printed Silk Fabics and a piece of a Milly print from Elliott Berman Fabrics. I discovered that a plastic open foot worked better than a walking foot but that I always had to start stitching about 1" from the edge if I was using a regular stretch stitch so that the feed dogs wouldn't eat the fabric. My serger and coverstitch machines handled the fabric wonderfully.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I lowered the gathers about 1" as suggested in the fitting instructions. As mentioned above, I also shortened the length by 2".
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I've made it twice, but really love how it fits. It's so easy to put together and practical that I may need a third version.
Conclusion:
I was very happy with this pattern. I also love sewing silk knits! I'll be searching for more of them to use in the future. See all the projects here.

Very pretty! The fabric is gorgeous! I also like the shortened length. Love them both! This pattern is going on my list.

Very cute. The pattern envelope makes this pattern so boring and plain. Yours is so cute. When will the pattern companies wise up and fix their envelopes. They would sell way more patterns.

Your tops are beautiful. I would not have given this pattern a second look, but now I want it.
