Pattern Description:
Known as the Infinity Dress or the Convertible Dress, this is a full circle skirt dress with multiple bodice and sleeve configurations and optional bateau top.

Dress has been around since the 70s in one form or another. You can buy this dress for hundreds of dollars at Two Birds Bridesmaids.

When looking for a dress that could work for my 25 year old maid of honor, my 39 year old bridesmaid, and my 12 year old jr bridesmaid, I quickly realized that I was just not going to be able to buy from a store. I came across Two Birds and realized the style was perfect for it's versatility, and quite simple to make. With its wrapping top style, knit fabric, and full skirt there is literally no fitting issues to worry about.

Pattern Sizing:
All you need is four key measurements: height, waist, width from center bust to shoulder, and desired skirt length. The pattern is easily custom drafted for any size and shape from there. My sister was a plus, my Maid of Honor was slim and my Jr Bridesmaid was petite in proportion and in between girls and juniors in her shape.

Instructions
Dress uses about 5 yards of 60" wide high quality 4 way stretch jersey. Both sides of the fabric will show so make sure you are using a reversible fabric.

1) You draft the skirt as a full circle without seams (like a cone) using the waist and skirt length measurements. There is a little math involved to get the radius measurement for the waist circle. You just need to use the waist measurement as the circumference of the circle and work from there.

2) Cut a 6" waist band piece using the waist measurement minus 1" for negative ease.

3) Cut two long bodice strips 1.5 times the person's height and as wide as the center bust to shoulder measurement.

Assembly is simple. I literally sewed each dress up in a few hours including drafting the pattern and cutting out.

Attach waistband (overlapping the last 1/2" to make a complete circle. Then you sew the short end of the bodice strips to to skirt, overlapping them by about 4 inches at the center. That is it!. If your fabric requires it, you can finish your edges with a simple turned or serged hem.

If you choose, you can add trim to the bottom of the skirt

Fabric Used:
Beautiful red Italian jersey from Mill End in Portland, and a slightly heavier weight Taupe jersey. I also purchased a complimentary taupe chiffon flower ribbon fabric to use as trim.

Wearing Options:
So many choices made it so my girls could select a style that was age and body appropriate. I added a bateau top for my Jr Bridesmaid for modesty which also expands your style options. My step daughter loved this knotted shoulder style with crisscross back

For my sister, I created an asymmetrical hemline to give her a bit more height and accentuate her great curves.

For my maid of honor, I was originally planning on the cap sleeve style with a chiffon flower trim. But a more modern and streamlined on shoulder version ended up suiting her the best.

Conclusion:
Going to have to make one of these great dresses for myself. It is a super simple, very sophisticated dress that flatters every body time. It takes almost no time to make and has no fitting issues.
