Pattern Description: Easy sun dress with 5 bodice options.
Pattern Sizing: Size A 8 - 18
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did. I made view B.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were quite clear and easy. There is one tricky bit...step 9. Just take some extra time here and study the picture closely. It will make sense eventually.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the girly style which is quite easy to sew.
Fabric Used: I have made this dress twice. For the first attempt I used a rayon voile which I purchased from Spotlight for $4 per metre in a bright cheery floral. This was a bit sheer so I decided to underline it with a cotton batiste. This was a disaster. The rayon voile draped differently to the cotton batiste which caused the midriff panel and the skirt to hang all wrong. I was making it to wear to a wedding so this was completely unacceptable. I gave up on the idea of wearing it to the wedding and decided to change it to a more casual sun dress by shortening it by about 12cm (nearly 5"). I unpicked lots of overlocked (serged) seams to separate the fabric from the underlining, and then sewed them separately. I left the midriff as was Click here This is really just a wearable muslin.
For the second dress I used a cotton woven fabric purchased from Spotlight. This was still a little sheer so I decided to line the dress with a cotton batiste. I underlined the midriff panel only, using the cotton fabric I used for the dress. I figured this would drape the same and eliminate any draping issues. This was successful. I like this dress much better than the first. I think the stiffer fabric is better suited to the pattern. The voile was too drapey.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only design changes I made were to line the dress and to shorten the length of the skirt. I also used an invisible zip.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I have already made this one twice. I may sew it again. I particularly like view B because it is bra friendly.
Conclusion: This is a great pattern that can be used to make a sun dress or it could also be made into a more formal dress by choosing a more suitable fabric. More photos Click here
