| Pattern Description:
Fitted (men) shirts have collar, collar/front bands, self-lined yoke, forward shoulder seams, and narrow hem.
Pattern Sizing:
S-M-L, XL-3XL
Were the instructions easy to follow?
No idea. They seemed pretty overwhelming to me, but that's my learning style.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Two-piece sleeves on a light cotton dress shirt, for what purpose? getting away with turned-in vent edges? Do not like. Collar and cuffs are huge relative to fit of body. Like: curved back yoke and upper back.
The sleeve cap is very high, making flat-felling an adventure not everyone seeks. I didn't mind, but don't notice particularly better fit than the Islander's relatively flat lines yielded.
Fabric Used:
- weighty (opaque) italian cotton shirting from Michael & Sherry
- buttons and sew-in interfacing from Pam Erny
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
- converted sleeve to 1-piece
- skipped tabs meant to hold rolled-up sleeves in place
- used DPC placket
- made cut-on front edges instead of bands
- adjusted seam allowances for flat felling
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Maybe I'll make it again. I bought both size ranges of this pattern, hoping to make up a shirt-dress in my size. As Ms McCall http://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/81088
http://brownpaperpattern.blogspot.com/2012/11/pattern-notebook-mccall-6613-mens-shirt.html
points out, lines for a FBA are already included. OTOH, I might get wild and use front princess seaming instead. Recommend it? Surely there's a better pattern out there.
For men with cuddly curvatures, I'll stick with fine-tuning Islander 203 right now.
For athletic fit, I'm going to try a Burda pattern. Currently copying a Land's End shirt that a well-sculpted friend claims is his best-fitting shirt.
Conclusion:
This is only the second shirt I've made, so I can't really gauge it yet. 3XL in this pattern yields about the same body size as 2XL Islander, but the collar is bizarrely, hugely bigger. Will post pictures if I can get them from the friend who was happy to take these test runs off my hands.
Will edit links etc ...eventually. | Buy this pattern for $14.96 List Price: $19.95 Add to Bag |
