Pattern Description: Misses Tops with belt and length variations
Pattern Sizing: 14-20
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, more or less
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I thought this shirt was a great pattern to work with my inspiration found on Pinterest - my other unhealthy obsession. Inspiration Outfit
Fabric Used: This was a beautiful cotton fabric, whose style name escapes me now. I think the inspiration top is probably chiffon or georgette. I found a similar fabric but at the time, I didn't want this top to be sheer and when I was looking for the fabric, I didn't feel as if I wanted to double the fabric or face it to eliminate some of the sheerness. So, this cotton won out. I had used it before to make a dress and near that it would work well. It wrinkles like the dickens, but that's cotton for you.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Though somewhat unintentional, I added french cuffs. It started with the sleeves being too long one I added the cuffs, but then I liked the look and decided to keep them instead of shortening the sleeves. Also, the inspiration top has what looks almost like a cumberbund wrapped at the waist. That and the color is what really drew me to this look. So, instead of just creating the fabric wrap belt, I added a length of fabric and gathered it in the center and at the two ends, stiched that piece to the two lenghts and then finished the belt as instructed.
My Birthday Suit
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will probably make this shirt again. I am always looking for well fitting shirts that I can wear under my suits or with jeans and this was is great. I can shorten it or lengthen it as needed for the style I want.
Conclusion: This shirt, a pair of slacks, a dress and coat were all a part of my "birthday collection. I decided to wear the skirt in the photo (made from another Butterick pattern) instead of the slacks because my daughter accidentally left her fabulous boots at my house when she visited for Thanksgiving. When I found them, they very much wanted me to wear them with this outfit for my birthday. So, I needed a skirt instead of slacks to give them their proper due! LOL. My daughter might disagree, but she's hundreds of miles away so I'm safe.
