Pattern Description: From the StyleArc web site:

"Great Jean Jacket sitting on the high hip with flattering shaping through the body. The sleeve features a deep hem so can be worn turned up for a casual look."

Pattern Sizing:

Style Arc sizes 6-30 (similar to Australian RTW sizes). Note that StyleArc patterns are hand-drawn and only available in one size per envelope.

My current measurements are very close to the StyleArc size 24, so that's the size that I chose for this pattern.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes, just note that the description isn't kidding about the deep hem/sleeve length.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

StyleArc instructions are more in the style of a list providing an order of construction than a sewing lesson. This particular pattern did include illustrations for the top-stitching and a diagram showing how/where to attach the collar and front facing. Both were helpful.

I'm a little surprised that this pattern is ranked "Challenging" on the StyleArc web site. It has a lot of pieces, but no particularly tricky techniques and was pretty easy to sew. If you've sewn a curved seam and a shirt with a collar, you can make this jacket.

Edit: To answer Karla's question in the comments, the jacket does not specify to use any interfacing (or "fuse") in the instructions. I was originally leery about this and posted a thread in the forum asking if this was typical for this style of jacket. Several helpful PR members reassured me that skipping the interfacing was pretty common for jean-style jackets. Because my corduroy had a lot of body, I decided to skip it as well. I think this was the right call for my jacket.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

Likes:

I love the finished jacket and that it was relatively easy to put together. Even with a 5-month-old daughter, I was able to complete the entire jacket over Thanksgiving weekend.

As others have mentioned, StyleArc drafting is very true-to-size. I did have one mystery notch on my pattern that didn't seem to have a corresponding notch on the piece that made up the other side of the seam, but other than that, everything lined up as expected, etc.

The final jacket is comfortable and fits well, and I've already worn it quite a bit in the week since I completed its construction.

Dislikes:

I keep finding myself trying to put my hands in the jacket pockets...except that this pattern has no pockets. Granted, pockets would have added to the construction time, but it feels weird to not have them in this style of jacket. Inseam pockets would be easy enough to draft and add in, though.

Fabric Used:

Designer stretch corduroy in winter white from Gorgeous Fabrics. Love this stuff. It's soft and a dream to sew. I've been slowly starting to collect it in pretty much every color Ann has available.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

None, but I should have checked the sleeve length and shortened them by 2". (I'm 5'2".) The sleeves are just too long on me--I don't have the option to not wear them rolled up. Oh well, I'll fix it in the next version.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I would definitely sew it again, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish jean jacket. I'm already planning to do a more traditional denim version and might do a third version in a bright color of some sort.

Conclusion:

Really nice pattern for a wardrobe staple.

Man, you are on a ROLL! I LOVE this jacket, especially in that gorgeous CREAM-COLORED corduroy. I can see you trying to put your hands in your pockets -- ha! -- BUT, as you say, that's so easily fixable. This is a keeper for sure!

Very attractive jacket on you with cool details. I am impressed that you were able to complete your jacket being a busy new mom. Your picture is especially cute with the baby in the background.
