I love the shape of this dress. I have a RTW dress similar to this from Reitman's and every time I wore it I got compliments. The lines are simple but they work.
So on to the pattern. I cut a size 12 thinking it would fit. NOPE, too big yet again. I will redo this dress in a 10. I used the fabric I got for $1.50/meter from Fabricville. It was a stretchy unknown fiber.
The instructions are easy to follow, now that I know how a dress with a liner is supposed to fit together. I went into this dress thinking it would be a 2 hour project. Uh, nope. But I did learn about the construction of a garment. However, I am getting really frustrated making things for myself that are WAY TOO BIG. Urgh.
So, I like the darts, I like the liner, I like the shape, just too big.
Now, this was my first time with the invisible zipper, and I watched my instructor sew it on, but it is super easy and not scary at all. You only need the invisible foot attachment.
You could make this dress in a heavier stretch and not put the zipper. The zipper gave me experience on how to install it, how to sew the liner to the zipper tape. And it adds a nice detail, but it is not 100% required.
And a good tip, but the proper interfacing for stretchy material. My Blog |
Thanks for the review on this pattern. I have been considering this for my DD. Sizing can be very frustrating! Next time you might try measuring a similar RTW garment and comparing it to your pattern to help decide on sizing. I think most of us sew a size smaller than our measurements would suggest as the Big 4 companies generally include too much ease.
