| Pattern Description: Burda describes this as an elegant gold cocktail dress.... subtle draping at the waist...short sleeves, knee length, flared skirt.
Pattern Sizing:It is designed for taller women, I modified it in the length and used the Burda size 76, which corresponds to a UK 12 and US 8. By my measurements I should have used the next size up, but when I made a toile in the 80 it had a lot of spare fabric in the width.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
No, I used a different fabric, and the magazine choice of fabric is very distinctive. I also changed the neckline and altered the construction of the tab holding the drapes.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
There are diagrams with this pattern. The cutting diagram has not printed the cutting line key (sizes) as it is printed on the pattern - not a big deal. The instructions fall down when it comes to fixing the tab holding the drapes. I didn't find this part of the pattern successful.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the idea of the drapes across the bodice, extending to a tab to wrap round vertical folds in the skirt. I wasn't happy with the result though. There's a fold of fabric coming from the underarm, and the tab doesn't nip in the drapes well, so on me, it ended up bulking up the waist and looked a bit shapeless. I put 'pattern OK but didn't work for me' because I'm not sure if this is the pattern design, or me. Perhaps in a different fabric or on a different figure it would work.
Fabric Used: I used a lightweight rayon blend in a deep wine colour with a pattern of paintsplashes in white.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I altered the length of the bodice and skirt, and added a collar, and put the zip in the side instead of the back. I changed how the tab was stitched.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I won't sew it again, I'd be interested to see how it works out for others, but do suggest doing a toile before cutting into any expensive fabric.
Conclusion:
The dress is ok, but I'm not thrilled with the look. Its still too bunchy at the waist. blog post

Apart from your issues (thanks for the detailed review/blog post, I can see what the problem is) I REALLY like what you made from it- love the piped collar, that is. It is not Auntie, it is very "modern" vintage (Paradoxon, but what the heck).

Like it, but did not recognize it in different fabric, collar, etc.
