Pattern Description: Misses' knit tops with neckline variations, pull on skirt and knit or woven scarf with fringe detail. New Look Just 4 Knits sewing pattern.
Pattern Sizing: 4-16 (pattern runs small)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? No
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? This should have been a very easy project, however it was impossible to finish the arm hole as instructed and the front facing caused too much bulk at the shoulder seams.
Fabric Used: 100% poly
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Had to re-work the armhole finish and the way the front facing was attached to the front.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I might sew this again if I changed the front facing, and added armhole facing or bindings.
Conclusion: Not a good pattern for a beginner due to problems with armhole construction.

I pulled out my pattern and yes, I think there may be a better way to finish the armholes, to eliminate the bulk. My RTW cowl top is finished in a similar way too. I wonder if flattenning the shoulder seams with wooden clappers, will reduce the bulk. I often do this with knits on side seam facings. 12/16/12 2:47 AM

Lori9999 said... Vonnevo, I don't have a wooden clapper, but did my best to to reduce the bulk by grading and smashing with a hammer. I am thinking that if I make this top again, I might try either re-working the front facing pattern piece by eliminating the pleat completely or replacing it with a dart, which could then be trimmed to lie flatter. 12/16/12 1:20 PM
