Pattern Description: The Tiramisu Dress is the first offering from Cake: Knit knee-length dress with front surplice (mock wrap) neckline, short kimono sleeves and an easily customizable midriff section. The skirt features in-seam pockets and falls in the soft folds of a vintage half-circle skirt. The pattern includes optional stripes placement guide, cup sizing A-D and a bust alteration line.
Pattern Sizing: 30"-50" high bust, 25"-50" waist.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Incredibly. Steph really nailed the perfect balance of providing helpful instructions that aren't too much to follow. Plus, there's plenty of help on sewingcake.com if you have specific questions or want more detail on a step.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the pockets and how they just disappear into the folds of the full skirt. And the bodice, with the wrap and kimono sleeves, is just so perfectly flattering.
I was a bit intimidated by all the sizing options at first, but it's so easy to customize the fit there was nothing for me to be afraid of.
Fabric Used: Stashed poly/spandex jersey in a bold purple/mustard/turquoise print on chocolate brown background. I picked it up cheap from JoAnn's a couple years back.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No fit alterations were necessary thanks to the choose-your-size pattern pieces. I sewed a 30D bodice and split the difference between the 27.5 and 30 marks for the waistline on the midriff and skirt pieces. I used the 27.5 length line and left the skirt unhemmed (for now, at least).
I stitched the whole thing up on my serger using a four thread safety stitch and wooly nylon in the loopers. It came together quickly! I did go off instructions on one thing- by choosing to apply the sleeve binding last, in the round, instead of flat and seaming it with the side seam.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely. This is going to be my TNT knit dress pattern, and I can see many versions of it in my future. Starting with a striped version ASAP. I love that there are stripe matching guidelines right on the pattern tissue so I don't even have to think about it.
Conclusion: Get thee to the SewingCake shop and buy your copy now. You won't regret it! Might as well pre-order your copy of Pavlova, too, as long as you're there! Can't wait? How about a PDF download on Craftsy?
