Pattern Description: Infants' and preemie layette includes one-piece romper, pullover t-shirt, dress, and bodysuit. Pretty much the standard pullover layette with the overlapped shoulders. I've always liked these types of shirts.

Pattern Sizing: 7 - 21 pounds. XS - XL is what I'd call it. They call it preemie, newborn, small, medium, large. But I've never seen a preemie that was 7 lbs so I think they're exaggerating a little there.

I made the dress in the Newborn size for the baby of a young new mother I know. Her baby was born the end of October and was around 9 lbs. The newborn size says it will fit up to 12 pounds and kids patterns invariably have too much ease, so that's the one I decided to use.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Mostly. I changed the way I did the neckline, so that's different.

Were the instructions easy to follow? These are pretty simple outfits. The instructions were fine.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I have a couple of patterns of baby layettes -- after all, you never know when you might need a baby gift. I bought this one particularly because I like the lapped shoulders.

Fabric Used: Soft cotton interlock from JoAnn's. It's a very cute baby print that I came across while idly browsing at my local store. Cute baby prints are hard enough to find that I snapped up a yard of this at the time. I wish I would have bought more.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The neckline of the pattern is supposed to be finished with a hem or with decorative elastic. Yuck. I don't like either of those options and RTW never makes these kind of clothes like that.

Instead I cut strips of the length of the fabric and 1 1/2 inches wide. Then I trimmed the 5/8 inch seam allowance from the neckline edges. I folded the strips lengthwise and serged, while stretching slightly, the binding to the neck edge. Then I coverstitched the seam flat with a 7mm coverstitch.

Closeup of the neckline

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would sew it again. It's a nice pattern to have on hand for baby gifts and it looks like it is pretty close to standard infant sizes, though I can't really be sure since I don't have anything on hand to compare it to. And I would most certainly recommend it.

Conclusion: It's cute and quick to put together. Two hours from beginning to end and resulting in a sweet baby gift.

I have made half a dozon or so for each of my three babies from this pattern. It really is great but I definitely think you improved the neckline.

I've made several of the pieces from this pattern and really like it. I also disliked how the pattern had you finish the neckline. Iused FOE to finish mine but like the look on yours as well and may have to try that in the future.
