Pattern Description:
Very Easy. Lined fitted bodice and side seam pockets
Pattern Sizing:8-10-12-14-16. I used my usual size 14 and C- cup sizing and it was a perfect fit.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I like the border fabric effect. I love the different cup sizes for the pattern. This means that you can go directly to the correct size and you don't have to make any further adjustments. The straight neckline is quite retro and so is the gathered skirt - quite 50s Italian Riviera.
Fabric Used:I used a one-sided cotton border print which was on sale so I bought about 5 meters. The border was too hectic to use for the bodice, and I wanted to avoid any unfortunate designs swirling around over my boobs, so I cut it down and reattached the border part halfway down the actual design leaving only smaller fronds which were easier to work with. I opened out the fabric, not folding it in half, and cut the left and right sides of the front bodice separately, lining them up as I went so that they were both symmetrical. I did the same with the back bodice pieces.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:I made several amendments. First up, I only had synthetic lining in my stash, so decided not to line the dress. It's so hot and sticky in Sydney in the summer that unless you use thin, fine cotton lining fabric, you won't want to wear the dress! I drafted 2.5" facings for the arm and neck openings and I interfaced them and continued as instructed. I left off the side pockets. Instead, I cut the front and back skirt sections as a single piece and then gathered them as one so that i didn't have to make any joins on the sides. This was possible because i had single sided border fabric. I used an invisible zip, and i lengthened the skirt by 3 inches. I sewed a 1/4" seam on the sleeve straps so that they would be a little bit wider with i prefer.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes. I would.
Conclusion: My Russian friend calls this style a "sarafan" - a peasant dress worn in the fields - and it is a great summer frock. Easy and comfortable to wear in the heat, and very easy to sew.

Classic little dress beautifully made and fitted. Your use of the border print on the bodice was so smart. We really can use whatever part(s) of the fabric that works...
