This is actually one of Simplicity's "Learn to Sew" patterns and has been used before to teach my daughter about patterns, cutting, and sewing (ladybug skirt 2 years ago).

She has gone back to wanting to wear skirts more often, but we discovered she had a serious lack in that department. The fabric used for this version is 100% cotton, black with a rainbow of different colored circles all over it. Because of the background color, this is a good skirt for fall and winter, but because it's cotton, it can really been worn all year long. The variety of colors allows for unending combinations and hopefully it will be worn for a long time

One simple pattern piece plus elastic and a hem......and tahdah, you have a skirt!
