| Pattern Description: Semi-fittedjackets, have pockets, underarm-gussets and front-zippers
Pattern Sizing:
size 16-22. I choose 20 as a startingpoint
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I did want it for the glorious collar, the empire waist and the curved hem, that fell loosely over the back
Fabric Used:polyesther brocade (Awful to sew, but easy handling for washing and ironing)
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I did not want pockets. I topstitched all the seams and darts
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Certainly yes. Very versatile pattern. I have it now for festivities , but it can also be made for daily use in an other material
Conclusion:
Glad I did it. A good companion for the LBD I made in november
Vogue 8620 "Pfaltzkapelle"
For Pattern Review I am - to put it mildly- really not the very first to review Marci Tilton's jacket patern , Vogue 8620. It was loved and praised in general.
Still I have hesitated quite a long time . I'm dressed in knit tops most of the time and I had the impression that it could be hard to adapt it to myself , and I could be sure that I had to adapt a lot and still did not want to spoil the lovely design. I was happy to see that the design has several possibilities for tweaking especially the empire waist is fine for that purpose. I decided to take my own block pattern, so as to compare it to the Vogue pattern. So I did the adaptation for a petite in the upper body part, I made the schoulders a lot smaller and added room for the bust in both the horizontal and vertical direction, and also a little bit of room for broad back, Under the waist I had minor problems. The balance problems dont play such a part as would be in skirt or pants. I was warned in other reviews that the sleeves could be snug in the upperarm and that was for me also the case. I did decide to correct that in the underarm-gusset piece. In the end I think that the collar is the only pattern-piece that I did not adapt at all. I didn’t want pockets. I was content with the way the changes in the paper pattern turned out.
The pattern was not difficult to sew, but the tissue was !It is a jacquard, a rather loose weave. It frayed and shirred. So I decided on sewing, than ironing to one side and serging and subsequently topstitching every single seam and dart. Yet , now that it's ready,I will not complain too much anymore . I love the shimmering colours. The jacket makes me think of the vaulted ceilings in the Carolingian Palatine Chapel in Aachen: Overall quite dark with the black and very dark brown at first view, but than a burst of vibrant of blue and green when it’s in the light. An advantage: It's easy to wash and iron! Good for the Christmas-party ( I will be with my husband, three little grandchildren and my two sons and daughters in law ) that will be tomorrow in our house .
