Pattern Description:
“Our coat is a classic staple inspired by Audrey Hepburn. The silhouette is elegant without too much fuss. The Peter Pan collar is timeless, while the high waistline flatters the figure, and the belt ties it all together. We made ours mod in a silk bouclé with black buttons and buckle. Try it in a bold orange or yellow å la Breakfast at Tiffany’s, or black gabardine for a downtown look.”
- from the BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook (pg. 143).
Pattern Sizing:
i probably started with a 36, but i had to redraft the entire bodice for a smaller, flatter princess curve.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
i thought it was a great canvas for a classic coat, easy to adapt to my own particular purposes.
Fabric Used:
red silk taffeta - paron's fabric
poly charmeuse lining - paron's annex
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
i redrafted the princess seams to better accommodate my figure. i added a waistband with a snap closure and a bow at the waistline, and shortened the bottom half of the jacket to resemble a bustle or riding jacket. i kept the darts for volume, only i sewed them as pleats. i drafted an undercollar, facing and lining pieces to complete my look.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
i doubt i will sew it again because i don't enjoy fitting armscye princess lines, but it is a great little pattern to have on hand.
Conclusion:
really happy with my garment, even though completing it the way i designed it took a lot more effort and was more challenging than i had planned.

From your blog, it sounds like this was not fast fashion but slow fashion, which is what I sew. And the time was worth it. Very nice and fun to see the inspiration photo.
