|Pattern Description: Classic little girl dress with an empire waist and puffed sleeves. The companion piece is a pinafore with ties on the sides.|
Pattern Sizing: 3-8 (girls)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, although the lack of information about an "underskirt" might be the reason my creation isn't as full looking. More about that below.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Not at all
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The pattern is very confusing. The author writes that she is a fan of finger pleating and that is used throughout the pattern, but her directions for how to do it are awful. And the pictures are no help at all, particularly the drawing for "wrong" and "correct" way of doing it. I eventually figured it out.
Also, 1/4 seam allowance is ridiculous.
The pattern also mentions an underskirt, but the material list and cutting instructions do NOT mention an underskirt. I emailed the author about this but got no response.
And there are NO markings for buttonholes. It is left to the sewist to figure where the button should go. I am not that clever! My buttonholes came out very uneven. And, there is no mention of interfacing. I have never heard of buttonholes without using interfacing.
The pattern indicates that it is great for all levels, including beginner. It is not.
Fabric Used: Quilting cottons
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I would try to enlarge the pieces so I could get a larger seam allowance, and just do simple gathering to fit sleeves and skirt to bodice rather than the complicated finger pleating.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I may make this again, but with the above changes. I would NOT recommend this pattern to anyone else.
Conclusion: The dress turned out cute, and looked nice with the other family outfits I made with same material, but I think I will stay away from this designer in the future.
