Pattern Description:
This is an easy to sew, unlined coat with a fabulous collar – wear it up hugging the neck or open to give a more casual look. Great deep buttoned pockets that are able to carry all that you need. Interesting seam treatment along with the bound edges gives this coat a unique look.
The Grace coat is a fashionable over coat and will become one of your favourites.

Pattern Sizing:
I sewed a 12, in order to fit my shoulders and I was prepared to enlarge it at the hips, since I usually wear a larger size on bottom. When I sewed the muslin, it was not necessary to enlarge it.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The coat is a very basic design, so the instructions didn't need to be very detailed.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The fit! This style could easily look very bag-like on me, and believe me, I have tried other patterns and that was the result. But somehow Style Arc manages to cut garments to flatter. Also, this pattern has it all - pockets, a collar that can be worn up or down and it needs no special tailoring.

Fabric Used:
wool coating with a glittery thread woven throughout. It is very pretty but when I tried to block fuse interfacing to it, I learned that the glittery thread melted at a fairly low heat. Therefore, it was not possible to fuse the interfacing. That was a bummer because it turned a fast project into a more involved undertaking. I had no choice but to stabilize the fabric with a sew-in underlining. Fortunately the herringbone made it possible to use the machine to stitch long seams to the coat. Click Here to see pics of me wearing the coat inside-out, before attaching sleeves.

It was DEFINITELY worth all the extra effort, because I wound up with exactly the coat I envisioned.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added a lining. That would really easy if I had bound the edges per the instructions. You could just add the lining and then treat the fashion fabric and lining as one piece.
But I did not have anything suitable for an edge binding, so I added seam allowances and a hem. You can see more posts about assembling the coat here.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, and yes. The great thing about the dropped sleeves is that the sleeve head is pretty flat - that means this would be a good candidate for any fabric that doesn't ease well. Wool gabardine comes to mind, or rain coating. I'd love to sew a raincoat using this pattern. It is roomy enough to wear over layers on a cold & rainy day.
I love this pattern!

front, with collar down

Conclusion:
I guess I already said how much I love this coat.
But I will say it again. This was a very rewarding project!
