|Pattern Description: |
Project Runway Collection misses' & miss petite coat in two lengths with collar, sleeve and belt variations.
Cut out the 18, but ended up altering it to probably a 16 in some areas.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, but since it was my first time making a coat like this, it took a few times of reading the directions to understand what they were having me do.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Pattern worked out fine. I made a muslin for it first, but did not have my dressform available at the time, so I feel like the coat could have been more fitted. I probably should of cut out a size 16 rather than an 18.
Burberry-like Plaid Wool Flannel, Italian silk crepe de chine (lining), cotton flannel (underlining)
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made the coat about 6 inches shorter than the shorter coat. I also had to bring the tops of the sleeves up because the shoulders were made very wide. (This is something I do in a lot of Simplicity patterns.) I also ended up moving the buttons so that the coat fit better.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would sew this again, but would make a size smaller probably. It was a fun project, it challenged me and I learned a lot. I would recommend this pattern to others, but would recommend making a muslin first, especially if it is your first time making a coat.
I learned how to match plaids and various tailoring techniques (that are not shared in the directions.) I used other blogs and books for reference. It was a fun challenge and also learned more about how to use muslins. I don't normally make them but felt it was important for this coat.
