Pattern Description:
Bubble dress with ruffles and contrast pattern fabric. Pattern Sizing:
I made this from the 4T size per the pattern. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It looked exactly like the photo on the pattern. Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were good until I got to the zipper. I struggled with the lapped zipper instructions. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The dress is lined and it wasn't difficult to do. It made the hem hang evenly and stay puffy. Fabric Used:
A medium-weight printed cotton fabric. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I would not do the lapped zipper. I would change the zipper construction to allow the zipper tape to show - I bought a contrasting color zipper not realizing that the pattern was cut for a lapped zipper. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would sew it again. I liked the ruffles and thought that adding the little bows on the shoulder would be too much. I don't think I'd like it nearly as well in the B version with the large bow. The ruffles on the front really look cute. Conclusion:
I like the pattern and the instructions were fairly good. There was an assumption of some knowledge so I don't know if a true beginner would do well with this pattern but it wasn't terribly difficult - until I got the zipper instructions. Maybe it had been so long since I'd put in a lapped zipper that I had just forgotten how to do it, but I struggled with that part of the dress construction much longer than with any other part. Overall I was pleased with the way it looks and she the people who have seen it have seemed to genuinely like it.
Very sweet dress!
