The main fabric is from a skirt that was made for my granddaughter's great aunt by her great grandmother, probably in the 1960's. The black windowpane checks are woven in, and the background has a texture most similar to plisse. It may be acetate, or possibly nylon-it was a bit hard to press. The hot pink is a crepe back satin from JoAnn's.
The pattern is described as toddlers' and child's dress with bodice and trim variations. This dress is a size 2 in width, and a 3 in length. The pattern really was used only as a guide for shoulders, neckline and armholes. The neckline was lowered a little bit and finished with bias piping. The puffed sleeves were borrowed from McCall's 6268, and finished with bias binding. The skirt was cut along the original hemline of the skirt. I restitched some of the seams to make the checks match better. The pink peeking out from under the skirt is bias binding on a net petticoat made from the grey net under the original skirt. The dress is fully lined-it eliminated facings and kept the scratchy net away from her legs. The cummerbund and rose were made up as I went along and are attached to the dress. There are streamers of silver, hot pink, and black ribbon below the rose that don't show up much in the pictures.
The dress looks a little long waisted, but she is long waisted so it falls about right. |
