Pattern Description:
A cowl top with long sleeves and side-ruching.

I made this top three months ago and was not too thrilled about it that I left it literally and technically "unfinished" (at the sleeve and lower hems). The type of fabric, fit, and my job with the neckline made me hide it in my "not certain" section of my wardrobe. A few days ago, I found a "scrap" of this top's fabric in my sewing area which prompted me to "rediscover" this top and wear it today.

Pattern Sizing:
Misses' 34-36-38-40-42. I sewed a 38 at the shoulders and a 40 elsewhere.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Yes, in terms of the overall style.

Fabric Used:
What seems like a sheer cotton/poly blend knit from EOS. I wore a camisole beneath my top.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
If I recall correctly, I did not experience too much difficulty. The directions for the back of the neckline were vague that I sewed what I felt was the most convenient method at the time.

Back neckline with front facing

I sewed a strip of store-bought bias binding to the back edge of the neckline and turned it to the inside with the front facing. For the side ruching, I stretched and stitched and a 7" long of 1/4" wide elastic along the lower right side.

Side elastic for ruching

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the modest depth of the cowl neckline and that there were only three main pattern pieces to work with, the front, back, and sleeve.

But less relevant to the pattern was I was not satisfied with my questionable results. I was not impressed with my quality of sewing with this top. But I will give myself an excuse that this was my first attempt with the pattern.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
My typical 1" petite adjustment at the waistline and reducing the width of the upper back by 3/4" (by taking in additional 3/8" at upper center back seam)

I did not "ruch" the sleeves and instead stitched a tiny hem at their ends. I might have shortened their lengths before stitching (my memory is hazy).

I did not hem the lower edge (which I usually do as a force of habit), which had a tendency to "curl" anyway (just like one the Burda Style model wore), and accept it as a "style feature".

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Probably not, however, I would still recommend this pattern for Burda Style magazine "newbies" or as a simple gratification project. It would be helpful to make a muslin or first-time version with "cheaper" fabric to get an idea how the top fits. It also is an ideal pattern to showcase a distinctive print of a knit.

Conclusion:
I like Celie's and Kay Y's versions of this pattern.

Happy New Year and Happy Sewing

I think you look great in this! :) Nice fabric colors and the style is nice - I agree about liking the shorter (less deep?!) cowl on it. I can't believe you had time to write a review on New Year's Eve! :)

A nice top, in spite of your reservations. The fabric is great, and the higher neckline is a good feature.

Happy New Year!!!, you rediscovered a really nice top and I'm guessing that kind of fabric can grow as your working with it? looks like a gauze it would gather up nice for the ruching, the colors are real nice on you. Very in style, RTW is showing a lot of sheer gauze tops.

My knit curls too! I like the more drape yours has. I think closing the opening impacted my cowl a bit. I also LOVE stripes.

I'd say your "not certain" section of the closet has become the "definitely" section! This top looks great on you!
