Pattern Description:
Kimono shirts: Shirt A with ¾-length sleeves, small V-neck and a broad waistband. B with shorter sleeves and broad band that loosely keeps all overlapping pieces of the front together.
Pattern Sizing:
10 - 22. I made size 10 veiw A.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. Tried the shirt on when it was fully constructed, the neckline and sleeve hems unfinished.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I have a RTW sweater in this style that my daughter and I love. i have seen other people wearing this style of top and just never thought it would look good on me, but the sweater we have is very flattering, so I thought we'd have a go at making some. I bought this pattern for the banded style and also the Schnittquelle Taipeh pattern (which is unbanded) so that we could compare the two and see which we liked better.
Perhaps the fabric choice was not the best for this pattern. We used a medium weight cotton jersey that was not overly drapey, but not what i would call stiff either. The pattern _is_ long, but it is intended to have some "blousing" over the snug fitting hip band. We're on the short side...just 5'2" and 5'3" so we could have definitely shortened it some.
The real problem for us is in that it still seemed too oversized for us. If we didn't also have the much better fitting Schnittquelle pattern to work with I might be inclined to work on sizing this down to fit us better.
Fabric Used:
Medium Weight Cotton Jersey with moderate stretch
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The only change we made was to lengthen the sleeve length to full sleeve.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I don't think I would recommend this pattern. I would encourage others to look into the Schnittquelle Taipeh pattern. If they really wanted a banded style, I think the better option would be to simply add a band to the Taipeh pattern.
