Pattern Description:
Fully lined dress with gathered sleeve caps, sweetheart neckline, and choice of full gathered skirt or A-line. For this version, I made a straight neckline and did not gather the sleeves, to make it a little less "sweet."
Pattern Sizing:
Sized for pear shapes like me. I made a straight 6 and took it in a smidge at the skirt side seams. Sewaholic patterns are closer to RTW sizing than other commercial patterns (I'm normally a 12 in those).
Were the instructions easy to follow?
This was my second time sewing this pattern. The instructions are pretty good. Tasia (the Sewaholic founder) has a tutorial on her blog for attaching the lining with a machine (here), which is helpful.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like my first version with the sweetheart neckline, etc, but this one feels a little more sophisticated for the office or nicer dinners. I also like how this dress is constructed with the full lining.
I always have issues attaching the A-line skirt, though -- it seems like it's drafted too big for the waistband and so I kind of have to ease it in, which makes it hang weird. I guess I should have remembered this for my second time, huh?
Fabric Used:
Wish I knew for sure. It was in the suiting section at a local fabric place, but it does not feel like wool. The lining is purple polyester, ick.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Adjusted the bust darts, straightened the neckline, used the sleeve lining pieces instead of the original dress sleeve pieces, and shortened the hem 3-4 inches.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This may be my last time with the Cambie! First version can be seen here, by the way.
Conclusion:
This was a UFO for awhile so I'm just glad it's done. It's a little fancier than my work dress code, so I'm not sure if I'll get to wear it sometime soon, but I do like having it just in case!

I want to get this pattern, and plan to make it as designed, but I love the modifications you made and will be keeping your dress in mind as inspiration for a second version
