Pattern Description:
Chanel style jacket - boxy, with edge to edge lining, quilted inside; 3/4 length three piece sleeves with vents and working buttonholes; haute couture sewing techniques Pattern Sizing:
6-14. I cut the 14 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes Were the instructions easy to follow?
There are A LOT of instructions but take your time and step by step and you'll get there. The pattern is rated as Average and while there isn't anything really difficult to do - it is extremely time consuming and laborious - mostly hand sewing and steam pressing. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love Chanel style jackets: they can be worn with anything and are at the same time dressy and casual. I liked the 'slowness' of this make - taking time and pride in little details. Fabric Used:
A navy tweed boucle with a bit of black sparkle woven through. You need a fabric with wool content for this project so that you can do the shrinking and shaping required. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Very few. I raised the shoulder seam by 1/2" for a closer fit. If, and that's a big IF, I make it again, I think I will consider making it a bit more fitted around the body but would just make bigger seams rather than cutting a smaller size. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This took me 108 approximately from cut-out to wearing and very little else was sewn during this period. I would like to make another one I like this so much but to invest that time and effort into one item needs planning and a certain state of mind. So not for the foreseeable future will I be making another, but I know I shall at some stage. Conclusion:
Perfect. I learned new sewing techniques and got a little insight into the workmanship and skill that goes into making a Chanel jacket.

I have a question regarding all that hand stitching: did you have to work in daylight or was artificial light ok (I'm struggling to sew dark fabrics at the mo!) 1/4/13 9:12 AM
