| Pattern Description:
From Envelope: This is a great style of top that will quickly become a staple in your wardrobe and is very EASY to sew! One pattern offers many design options including:
3 different collars offer 4 different looks sleeve options including short, three quarter, and long 2 ruching options for the body Pattern Sizing:
XXS-XL Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Not exactly - this is one of the versions for the One Pattern, Many Looks contest Were the instructions easy to follow?
very and includes extra tips What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love everything about this pattern, and nominated it for best of 2012. Fabric Used:
VERSION 1: poly/spandex blend from FM
VERSION 2: poly fleece
VERSION 3: sweater knit
VERSION 4: color block both rayon spandex
VERSION 5: slinky knit
VERSION 6: rayon spandex - bleached Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
VERSION 1: shortened length 2", cut collar on the bias and only attached one end (single layer collar) to control the long length of the single layer collar, I ruched it's back seam - this allows me more variations to play with how the collar lays including allowing the back side of the fabric to show. Cut off upper sleeve cap and did a turned hem, turned under the remainder of the armhole, ruched only the upper section of the sleeve.
VERSION 2: midweight polar fleece from Joanne's
left sides seams open a few inches and top stitched the SA down, reversed collar so that seam was at CF and sewed each side of collar together with narrow seam then overlapped the edges about an inch - no drafting changes to either collar or neckline. Collar can be worn several ways - open, doubled to inside, doubled to outside - the great thing about fleece is that it sticks to itself so no fasteners necessary! Left an opening in the lower sleeve for thumb holes then top stitched the SA, simple turned hem at cuff edge. This is not a running shirt, too hot for that, but I know what I'm going to do to make one now. My first fleece project!
VERSION 3: sweater knit - added a little length to the front collar
VERSION 4: First color block! I traced out the shape I wanted on the front and then cut it apart for the 2 colors. Colors are joined with a narrow 3 stitch serged seam. Did the same for the sleeve - added the same "cold shoulder" as version one, but took the contrast section up to the shoulder following the same lines as the sleeve pattern, then I cut that section into 3 strips and braided it before sewing to the shoulder. Yeah, it's a little loud - but this is Alaska - grey and dreary and I'm feeling particularly deprived of color...
VERSION 5: The only change I made was to shorten the sleeves a little
VERSION 6: Pretty much as is from the envelope - I was experimenting with reverse dyeing so this one has been treated with bleach. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Let's see - I have now made this 8 times. I've also challenged myself to create a variant of this pattern every month this year. You need this pattern! Conclusion:
I like to think of this as my menopause top...(version 1)
DH said it looked like I was wearing long gloves - Ha! I will definitely be sewing another version of this as a running shirt - built in arm warmers - love! (version 2) Version1with jeans Version1 back

Menopause top, Ha! I love it! What, you aren't going to make a version with pit zips for winter exercising? Really Chenille, this top with jeans or skirt shows off your hard work at the gym. Do I need this pattern?

Wow, you look hot girl! How adorable! I love what you did with the sleeves. Menopause top, I so need about five of those!

Thanks, all! It's my first top like this and it was so simple - working on a polar fleece version with thumb holes today...JOshiro, that first look was in a tissue knit and that's what the sleeves look like before ruching.

I'm loving the open shoulders! Great work!

OMGosh, that's beautiful! You made a change I hadn't even thought about. Is that fabric the FM they said to wash before storing/using because it would bleed? It's absolutely stunning in this top.
1/7/13 10:05 AM
Renren - yes - that's the fabric. I did prewash, and I don't see dye coming off BUT I was wearing clear nail polish and my finger nails are stained - but not my skin - weird, I'm going to wrap the left overs in white tissue paper to see what happens. I may need to do another wash with a dye fixative.

Nice placement of fabric on the back of the black and white version. Version with "gloves" looks party-pretty. Amazing variety, all lovely.

The black and white is my favorite and thanks for noticing - I worked hard to get the pattern placement where I wanted it.
