Pattern Description: The blogger at Melly Sews got tired of not being able to find good patterns for her boys so she started her own pattern line called blank slate patterns. This pattern is from that line and is for basic pants for young boys. The pattern has several variations for fly zip, pockets, and finishing
Pattern Sizing: 18 months to size 8
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, though I liked mine even better.
Were the instructions easy to follow? This was probably the best part of these pants. The instructions are very good and they have full color pictures in the downloadable pdf. I was especially impressed with the way she explained the fly zipper. If you have never done a fly zipper before, I highly recommend these pants be your first (if you sew for kids.)
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really liked how these a good starting place for your own creativity. I also liked the skinnier leg.
Fabric Used: Denim with flannel accents.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: My first pair I did not make any adjustments. But my boy is so thin, that even the skinnier leg was big on him. So my next pair I cut for the size 4 for width and 6 for length. The fit is perfect. The other thing I changed on both is that I used adjustable waist elastic so as my boy grows, I can adjust the waist width.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and yes. I actually like the way these pants fit my son better than any other and will probably keep sewing them until he out grows the pattern.
Conclusion: The pattern can be bought online at blank slate patterns and is downloadable in pdf form. Also, this way you have color magazine like instructions to keep open on your computer. The instructions are extremely clear and this would be a great project for a new sewist or for someone looking for more variety in boy's pants.
