| Pattern Description: Close fitting, mock wrap front, gathering on left side, raglan sleeves.
Pattern Sizing: 8-24. I cut a size 10 in view A with a sash.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, although I had to spend more time on the collar instructions since this was my first time sewing a collar.
This was also my first time using a fabric with a nap, so I spent a bit more time with the layout. I used the the grain-line arrows on the pattern pieces to line up the fabric properly (and the "with nap" layout of course).
I thought I lined up the front properly, but looking at photos now, not so sure :/... but I'm very pleased with how well the back sections lined up.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the slim fit of this dress! I only had to take in a small section at the hips, but other than that, the dress fit exceptionally well. I'm so used to having to take in dresses at the sides and arms because of the ridiculous amount of ease, so this was a nice change
I like the gathering at the left side. This was my first "wearable" garment that I've sewn with any gathers
As for dislikes, well, I wish the pattern came with a "no-collar" version. This is not a problem with the pattern really, but it would be a nice option to have.
Fabric Used: Polyester-Spandex Knit from Fabricville. The pattern calls for "moderate-stretch knits only" but I really wanted to use this fabric after seeing Art Attack's version. I was actually going to sew NEW LOOk 6097, but after reading her glowing review of McCalls 6163, I gave it a go. And wow, I love it!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I used a strip to self-fabric to bind the neckline instead of making a narrow hem. I trimmed a bit of the neckline before binding it so it would be the same size as if I did a narrow hem.The neckline turned out better than I thought, and its a good depth. No gapping and totally appropriate for church (and I did wear it there yesterday
I sewed the sleeves in first and then the side seams in case I needed to adjust, but great for me, there was no adjusting necessary.
I don't think I sewed the left front side to the left back side properly (I noticed while wearing it yesterday that I should have extended the gathered side further than I did before sewing it). I likely overlooked a lineup "dot" on the pattern piece. As a result, its a little "droopy". I will keep that in mind for my next dress.
I left off the zipper.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This pattern is amazing! I will definitely sew it again! It fits like a glove! I would like to sew all views of this dress!
Conclusion: This is the best-fitting dress I've sewn that was pretty much straight from the envelope. I have to say I'm not particularly impressed with the cover photo. Other reviewers definitely inspired me to try this pattern.
Funny, it struck me yesterday that this dress has the similar colors as the Vogue dress I made back in the summer. I will work on expanding my color horizon
