Pattern Description: . This pattern is for a formal dress with boned bodice, side zipper, and lacing over the back pattern. The waistline comes to a gentle point in both the front and back, and the skirt is pleated for fullness.
Pattern Sizing: I made the size 6 based on the finished garment measurements, not the sizing guide measurements.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes, other than my minor modifications
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the lines of the bodice, and I wanted to try sewing a dress in this style.
Fabric Used: Casa collection satin from JoAnns in a teal for the dress and a lilac for the underskirt.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did the loops for the corset-back slightly differently to give a softer look, I also took the waist in a little bit. I shortened the skirt and added an underskirt in a contrasting color. I omitted the undermost layer of the skirt since I was adding a fully lined underskirt. I added fabric flowers in lilac organza, chiffon, crepe, satin, and lining fabrics.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would. The only bit I found tricky was sewing the bodice to the skirt. I used my dress form religiously along the way to make sure that the fit was correct, and I used the finished garment measurements rather than the sizing measurements to select my size. I would use these techniques again if I sewed this dress again.
Conclusion: Great pattern, not exactly a 'first project' but definitely manageable with a little bit of patience. |
Very pretty dress - I love the embellishments! I bet the back looks great, too! Nicely done!

Very nice styling with this dress. What size would the sizing measurements have asked you to make?

I would have been between a size 10and 12 based on the measurements for sizing.

Thanks for that info. Just as well you went down in size, you would have been swimming in it.
