| Pattern Description:
Slightly flared legged pants A, B (semi-fitted through the hip) have below-waistline contour waistband with fly zipper closing, front and back welt pockets, back button loops. A: contrast welts and loops. A, B: contrast waistband facing. B: turn back cuffs.
Pattern Sizing:
DD(12-14-16-18). I made size 14.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It sort of did. Now, looking at the line drawing, it does show that the pant sits just below the waist. On the cover model, the pant looks like it sits on the high hip, so when I constructed the garment, I felt like the pant sat much to high on me. I have a short/thick waist, so I felt this part of the design was not flattering on me.
I do love the rest of the pant fit though. I love the wide leg and the welt pockets.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The welt pockets were the most challenging. I followed the pattern instructions, but I had learned a different method in school. The rest of the pant was pretty self-explanatory.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Like I said above, I love the look of the pant. The cut is great, the welt pockets are beautiful and I love the wide leg.
On me, I didn't like where it sat and wished it sat lower on my (high) hip than so close to my waist. I have a rectangle body, so high waisted pants look especially bad on me and this was at the border of being too high.
Fabric Used:
I used a grey, polyester suiting fabric from Joann.
I used a very slippery silky feel material for the pocket lining and I think that's where I went wrong. It was difficult to work with in the welts and if you look really closely on some of the pockets, you can see the lining trying to come out.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I took in the hip and legs a little bit.
The hip I took in because compared to my waist, my hips are quite narrow.
I took in the legs because flare was a bit more than what I wanted, but now that I'm looking at it, maybe I'd like to try it again as flared as the pattern intended.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I really like these pants. Because of where they sit on me (almost at the waist), I don't feel they are as flattering as they could be on someone with a long torso or a pear-shaped body. Sitting so high on me accentuates my thick waist. If i were to sew it again, I would alter it so that it sits a bit lower (on the high hip maybe). I definitely recommend it because it's a beautiful cut, but you may have to make some alterations to the pattern depending on where you want the pant to sit.
Conclusion:
I will make this pant again after I alter the pattern.
