Pattern Description: semi-fitted skirt that sits slightly below the natural waist and works up well in a variety of fabrics, from denim to wool to corduroy and many fabrics in-between. Skirt features a fly front and button closure as well as a yoke at the back. View B has a hem band for a slightly longer version.
Pattern Sizing: 0-18. Size chart follows RTW sizing (as opposed to sizing of Big 4 pattern companies). I am a 6 according to the size chart on the pattern, which is what I would buy from a store. It was just a little tight in the hips and a little big in the waist when I tried it in a muslin. This is a normal fitting problem for me, but I just wanted to pass it along for those of you who like to dive right into your "good" fabric with a new pattern. This pattern has 1/2 inch seam allowances, which means just a little less fabric there if you needed to let it out a bit.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? I thought they were very clear and well-written.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the slim, straight fit; it works well with heavier bottom-weight fabrics.
Fabric Used: Denim from JoAnn fabrics.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added side seams to the waistband. As mentioned above, when something fits me in the hips it is usually too big in the waist, and I just find it easier to make adjustments if I have side seams to work with. I also wanted to use the hem band, but have it a little shorter than View B, so I shortened the skirt a few inches before attaching the hem band.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would definitely sew this pattern again, and recommend it. I think a confident beginner could handle this pattern, but just take your time and transfer all the line markings given on the pattern pieces. I had to stop and doublecheck a few times to make sure I had everything matching up the right way with the pockets and yoke!
Conclusion: I am really happy with how this skirt turned out and have already worn it a few times. Give it a try!
