This pattern has been in New Look's catalog FOREVER, and for good reason. It offers five different options for the top, so you can probably find one that flatters you. It's economical on the fabric for a tea-length dress, using less than 3 yards of 45" fabric (less than 2 1/2 yards of 60" fabric) for most options. If you don't make the belt, you can use less fabric.
I've made FOUR dresses in this pattern. It's a perennial favorite. So easy, so flattering on my pear shape -- the bias-cut A-line skirt just skims the curves without being tight OR tent-like. Pattern takes about 3-5 hours from start to finish.
I have no advice for those sewing this pattern, because it's designed and explained so well. Just cut it out and follow the instructions, and magic ensues.
Seriously, this might be the "perfect" sundress pattern for women with my shape (medium-small on top, big on bottom).
