Pattern Description: FROM THE ENVELOPE
"Finally, a modern trouser pattern designed for curvy hips, fuller thighs and a narrow waist! The Thurlow Trousers sit below the waistline, with a slightly flared leg. Pockets in front are subtle slash pockets that won’t add bulk to the hips.
Pattern includes a cute pair of cuffed shorts as well as full-length pants. Wear the shorts cuffed or un-cuffed, with an optional grosgrain ribbon belt.
A great feature of this pattern is the centre back extension. Both trousers and shorts have extra-wide seam allowances at centre back so they're easily altered for a custom fit at the waist. Try on your pants when they're partially sewn, and fit them to your body!
Sizing is proportioned for a pear-shaped figure: smaller waist, larger hips and thighs."
Pattern Sizing:0-16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. This is my wearable muslin in RPL. Pictures here
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very much. Gorgeous pictures. But you can't be a full on beginner. You need to have some experience as there are phrases such as "Sew the waistband to the pants", with no other description added.
There is a lot of assumed basic to intermediate knowledge.
Sew along with Lady bird here. Thanks Lady bird!!! Thurlow Sewalong
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
These pants are not the magic pants that don't require fitting. Did you really think they would be..?
HOWEVER; they are magic in the following ways and this is what makes them GREAT!!
1)RTW cut. Who doesn't love that?? So tired of Big 4 "diaper pants" with waists up to my ears.
2)The Fly construction is so easy, RTW and professional.
3)Fitting is easier due to drafting, RTW cut and the CB extension.
4)Back extension-This makes the construction so much more pleasant. Just get close to your fit, then cinch up the back!!!
5)Excellent pictures in the instructions.
6)Waistband. Again, easy!
7)Fly. did I say the fly was awesome?!
8)Already drafted in: longer inseams for fuller thighs.
9)Pockets. The front pocket construction is out of this world, easy, pleasant and RTW.
10)Professional look. They can be your work slacks OR your jean trousers.
Fabric Used:Woven Rayon Poly Lycra
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Oh my.
1)Long vertical tuck down the back pattern piece. (Palmer/Pletsch)
2)Shortened length by 3-4'
3)Larger thighs alteration (lengthening front and back inseams by about 3/8") but usuallly I have to add about an inch!!
4)"Scooping" of back crotch seam alteration. 5)I really needed Fisheye Dart tutorial for these wrinkles
-However; these alterations were minimal as my belief is the larger thigh alteration is already incorporated into this pattern.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes and Yes.
Conclusion: Love them. They are what actually got me to finish a pair of pants finally! Thank you Tasia. |
