| Pattern Description: Misses' sheath dress with pleated neckline variations can be made with short or elbow-length raglan sleeves. Sleeveless view E has obi-style belt. New look sewing pattern.
Pattern Sizing: 8 to 18
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Loved the cap sleeve on this dress, which is what caught my eye & made me buy the pattern. Also love that you have neckline & sleeve length options too.
Fabric Used: all but one version made in various stretch sateens with lycra.... the remaining dress in a lovely soft charcoal linen.... the camel dress is a polyester kind of fabric which looks like delustered satin with a cotton backing.... haven't seen anything like this ever before so not really sure what it is.... very easy to sew though & looks nice. Other dresses are made of poly/cotton stretch sateen with lycra.
Here are photos of all the dresses.... Please note my daughter is modelling for me & she is smaller than me! (my dressmakers dummy has expired) Camel dress - pleated neckline Floral dress - darted neckline Floral dress neckline darts detail red/black dress - pleated neckline red/black dress neckline pleat detail blue flowers dress - pleated neckline charcoal linen dress - darted neckline
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I lined the sleeves on the camel dress as I didn't want any topstitching to show on the sleeve hems.... the charcoal dress was fully lined as it was linen (to reduce wrinkles). All others are unlined, & I used a blind hem on the sleeves & hems (rather than topstitching). I also used invisible zippers on all versions.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
well I've already made 5 of these, so I guess you could say its my new favourite sheath dress! Fits beautifully! After seeing another review for the longer sleeve style, I will definitely make a few more with that sleeve length for winter too.
I also want to play around with a few different necklines too, maybe some pleats or gathers instead of the 4 darts for starters....
I also want to make the sleeveless version (although the contrast pieces don't appeal, I would cut as one piece rather than sewn as they have on the pattern).
I TOTALLY recommend this pattern if you want an excellent fitting sheath dress with a few styling options! (that is also a bit more modest than a sleeveless version)
Conclusion:
I can't believe no-one has picked up on what a brilliant dress pattern this is, both for summer & winter. I absolutely LOVE this dress pattern as its so versatile!
It fits really well, is very easy to make (I can knock one of these up in 2 hrs now that I've made so many LOL!) & has nice neckline options. Looks just as good with or without a belt too.
The raglan style cap sleeve, I think, is very flattering & easy to sew, so this pattern is an excellent choice for a beginner to attempt (much easier to sew than setting in a sleeve).
Overall another New Look 'must have' pattern! | Buy this pattern for $4.49 Add to Bag |
