Pattern Description:
from envelope: pants very loose fitting, tapered.
I'm adding: Front waistband has double row of 1" wide elastic, front is gathered, back is fitted with 6 darts at waist and an interfaced facing. Back sides extend to front and are top stitched double row. Lower leg fits tight at ankle. Pattern Sizing:
4-10 also available 10-16. I made a size 6 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
yes Were the instructions easy to follow?
yes What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It's a simple pant to sew, like how the inside waist was finished, it's an easy fit without looking baggy - especially good if you have large thigh issues. Love how fitted they are at the lower leg. Double love how all those back darts give such a smooth look to the back - nice change from flat front, gathered back.
I'm not sure I like where the inseam sits - it's farther back than centered and I'm not sure if that's the way the pattern is drafted or just how it sits on me, but where it sits makes it easy to fit the back pant leg to fall straight from your butt without crumpling at inseam level. In any case, I'm planning another pair in solid black and will add to the back leg inseam and remove the same amount from the front leg inseam and see if it makes any difference. Since the front does not extend to the side seams, I have to be careful when I pull these on because the back waist is fitted and interfaced - if I had a larger hip to waist ratio, I would have to add a zipper or button closure just at the waistband to get these on comfortably. Fabric Used:
poly/lycra ITY in my stash from JA's Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
adjusted the back crotch length to fit me (lengthened) was the only change. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Planning on cutting out another pair this week in black! Yes. Conclusion:
This pattern was in my stash for the jacket. I like the look of the pants, but wasn't thrilled with the line drawing of how baggy it looked in the front. Then I saw a picture of this made in a poly ITY in the current issue of Vogue patterns. Loved it! I think you have to stick to a fabric that is thin and is able to hold it's shape or the front gathering could really add some inches to how you look. It would be easy to make this in a woven and just add a zipper to the back.
I'm not sure I like where the inseam sits - more towards the back than the center but they are totally comfortable and I can see myself living in pants like these come summer. In my next pair, I'm planning on shifting the inseam closer to midline, removing about .5" from the front side seam to reduce a little of the gathering, adding side seam pockets and buttons + elastic loops to close the waistband at the sides. side back back waist detail front waist detail |
