For this jumper, I used several different aspects and pattern pieces from the book Sewing for Toddlers.
This book is really a great go-to book if you are sewing for children wearing 1T to 4T. It contains pattern sheets and instructions for dresses, pants, shirts and many variations of the styles.
The intro gives basic information and then each chapter is broken down by type of garment. There are patterns for knits and wovens.
My mother gave me this book at the birth of my first child and it was the book she used when she was sewing for me in the 1970s. And though the photos are highly dated, the patterns are classic. That is actually the best thing about this book. The patterns are great wardrobe builders and are basic enough that you can add the necessary details and fabric choices to make modern and practical clothing for your children.
I was a beginner sewist when I started on this book and I learned a great deal sewing through the patterns. I have made just about everything in the book at least once and now am taking aspects of the patterns and morphing them into entirely new looks.

This is adorable! I can't wait to have a granddaughter myself. DD has two boys, third boy on the way. They're fun but sewing for a little girl...sigh!

Thanks. I love sewing for my girls, but I have a lot of fun sewing for my boy too. But with him, I usually need to talk to him first to make sure that I am making something he will really wear.
