Pattern Description: Mini skirt with pockets at the front, a concealed centre back zip and a waistband.
The skirt length is 38cm. I lengthened mine by 12cm to 50cm.
Pattern Sizing: The pattern is 6-12: I made size 12 which fits very well.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes. But I wonder if the waistband pattern is too small: I had to fiddle a lot to get it to fit the skirt.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the bias binding method of finishing the seams (is this the Hong Kong finish?) and how versatile this pattern is: I've used a pinstripe moleskin fabric to a very smart effect. Denim would have worked brilliantly too: an everyday, casual skirt that flatters.
Less successful was the waistband which is rather rigid a design to have on a part of the body that tends to vary in size throughout the day depending on whether or not one's had any food or drink! Click Here for an explanation and more photos!
If I make this again, I'll use facing.
The other thing that may be worth mentioning is that the skirt pattern is true to size (IMO) whereas the top isn't (for the top, I'd made an 8 blogged here.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Yes, see above. The other consideration is this: if like me you're making this in a heavier than advised fabric, you'll probably want to press the side seams and the centre back seam open otherwise there'll be too much bulk. If so, you'll need an extra 1.5 of binding.
Extra binding will also be necessary if you're significantly lengthening the skirt.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, you have my blessing!
Will make again but with variations here and there.
Conclusion: I know what I'll be wearing this winter!
I love it! I think I "need" this pattern.
