Pattern Description:
Cinderella and Snow White costume - I used the cinderella view of the pattern
Pattern Sizing:
ran a bit big like most Simplicity patterns, but I am also very petite and am used to altering their patterns
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Somewhat. I changed the sleeves and used a different skirt, so I don't really know.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I was disappointed that the overall scale of the pattern was not a over the top as one might expect a princess pattern to be. Th
Fabric Used:
Main dress - a silvery blue poly taffeta purchased in the NY garment district
overlay - light blue sparkle organza from JoAnns
sleeves and peplum - white sparkle costume satin from JoAnns
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
In order to get the look I wanted, I changed the pattern a lot. First off, I altered the neckline so it was not as square. I rounded it out and cut it a bit lower so it would be closer to the film. While making my muslin, I got rid of the seam up the front of the bodice so it was much smoother. The "cinderella" sleeves in the pattern were quite sad looking so I took the largest "snow white" sleeve from the pattern and added elastic to the edge to give it the appropriate poof. The peplum was also a bit flat so I again used the largest size and just gathered it to my bodice. I did not use the skirt in the pattern and instead gathered 3 lengths of fabric sewn together to a waistband. If oyu want that princessy poof, you will need a bridal petticoat or hoop underneath to give it the correct shape.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I might use this pattern again if I was sewing the "Snow White" view of the pattern. I certainly don't need another cinderella dress
Conclusion
Overall, this pattern gives a good base for either a cinderella or snow white costume, but it will need modifications if you want it to look exactly like the movie. |
