Pattern Description:
The perfect basic tee! The Renfrew Top is a fitted knit top with sleeve and neckline variations. View A has long sleeves and a scoop neckline. View B has short sleeves and a deep V neckline. View C has a dramatic cowl neckline and three-quarter length sleeves. Mix and match any of the sleeves with any of the neckline options for unlimited possibilities!
Pattern Sizing:
Sizes: 0-16 (I made the 12 and tapered to a 10 at the hips.)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
This is the fifth time I have made a Renfrew top, but the first time doing the long sleeve scoop neck. I love the ease of the directions and after you've made it a couple of times, you won't really need to refer to them. The only step that trips me up is the cowl, but if you follow the pictures instead of your intuition it will work.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Even though I don't really think of myself as pear shaped, I love the fit of the Sewaholic patterns. Just by tapering down a size in the hip area I am able to make the fit perfect for me. It's probably produced the most RTW looking garments of all my sewing efforts and most people would never think I made the shirts.
Fabric Used:
Sweater knit from Joann Red Tag Table
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Graded down a size at hip to compensate for my non-pear shape.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I have sewn it many times and will keep sewing it whenever I want an almost instant gratification top that will always get compliments.
Conclusion:
I love that the pattern works with so many different fabrics, producing different results but still attractive tops. I have yet to make the v-neck, but you can look at My Blog for the additional scoop neck and cowl pictures.
Really nice top (and those on your blog too)! Very helpful review. Thx.
