Pattern Description:
A-line tops have raglan sleeve variations, shaped hemlines, and stitched hems.
I sewed Top C with long sleeves.
Pattern Sizing:
X-Small to X-Large.
I sewed the xs, which would have been my normal size for McCall's.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Top C in the envelope photo is obscured by the scarf, which I didn't sew. I guess it looks close to the illustration. Here it is on my dress form.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't read them. Just used my typical raglan tee construction order, serging the seams as I went.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I wanted to sew some very simple, long-sleeved tunics to wear over fitted bottoms. This pattern is incredibly voluminous, which I could see taking some people off guard -- but I wanted that volume and drape, so I went into this eyes wide open. The just-right sleeve length and snug circumference at the wrist feel great for such a big style. Also, I had two 1-yard pieces of very similar weight and hand cotton knit, and this pattern was perfect for combining them, with very little waste.
Fabric Used:
Two lightweight cotton knits.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Usual 1-inch petite adjustment at waist and on the sleeve. I also decided to add the narrowest 1/4" binding around the neckline to finish it instead of turning it under 5/8" and sewing it down. Finished the hem with the Wrights hem lace stuff, and though it stiffens the hem a bit, the top still hangs and drapes fine for me.
One thing I might change: Being only 5' tall, I would normally have made a petite adjustment for height at the hip, too. On this pattern, the hip was not noted on either the front or back bodice, so I just skipped it. After wearing this top all day, it does feel more like a dress than a tunic, so I might take out that 1" at the hip if I sewed this again.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I might sew it again in a solid. Maybe. Also saw a previous reviewer who sewed this in a giant striped knit, and it's really cute. The pattern is super easy, perfect for someone new to sewing knits.
Conclusion:
Easy, quick pattern. There is a lot of style ease, which is probably a love it or leave it thing. I love it! |

Cute tunic top! I hope you can make it again and make the petite adjustments as you mention as I think this could be a great go-to tunic. Well done!
